Kausani is small and calm peacefull destination in Bageshwar .Mahatma Gandhi liked Kausani very much and visited oftenly and wrote his famous book on Anasakti Yoga here. The famous Gandhi Ashram here is named in his honour and is a popular facility. It is a small peaceful and calmful place in Bageshwar .Mahatma Gandhi called this place the ‘Switzerland of India’, due to similarity in landscape, he stayed here for some time. There are very few places in the Himalayas that can compare with the beauty of Kausani – a picturesque hill station famous for its scenic splendour and its spectacular 300 km-wide panoramic view of Himalayan peaks like Nanada Devi, Trishul, Panchhuli. Sumitra Nandan Pant famous Indian poet was born here.
Baijnath: ancient temple is located along the Gomti River with 18 ancient shrines built between the 9th and 12th Century. Baijnath Temple: 19 km from Kausani, Baijnath temple is an ASI site and was built during 12th Century A.D. Temple was built in Shikara style .It’s highly venerated Shiva temple and river is lined with series of Ghats. From Kausani, catch any shared jeep/bus going to Garud (1 hour, 20 RS).Baijnath Temple is very close to Garud taxi stand so you can walk alternatively catch any other shared taxi going to Bageshwar/Gwaldam.
Rudhradhari Waterfall and Caves: 20 km from Kausani, This trip can be done in half a day and involves moderate hiking of 1-2 km. Trail is picturesque and lush green with pine lines.
Burha Pinnath (5.5 km from Kausani): Moderate Trek to Burha Pinnath can be done in a single day so all you need to carry your lunch. Rising 910 meter from Kausani, Pinnath has an ancient miniature Shiva temple on the hill top. Wilderness trail to Burha Pinnath passes through thick unspoiled jungle and notorious for occasional bear and leopard sightings. You must avoid this trail in the dark. Burha Pinnath sits atop the source of Kosi River.
