Dehradun is covered with beautiful landscapes rivers and forest and we have some very exciting tourist spots here.
1. Sahastradhara in hindi means springs of water all overs means of water. In Sahastradhara their are many springs coming from small sulphur caves, which looks very beautiful. According to belief Guru Dronacharya did his Tapasya here.It is believed that , the water can cure skin infections and possess other medicinal properties.
Tourist have lot water fun especially in summers. Small water park with many swings are there. A small rope way which takes to a height is very exciting.Small local market is very attractive.
Robbers Cave is a unique and amazing tourist attraction.It reminds the story of “Ali Baba Chalis chor” “Khul ja sim sim.Robbers cave-Guchhu Pani is 8km from Dehradun and in the area of Anarwala. A water stream passes thru dark canyon cave which looks scary and exciting. It is a deep canyon.The cave is around 1.5km long and shaped in the zigzag shape.The Robbers Cave is around 50m in height.Walking inside the cave and taking bath inside the cave is very refreshing.Few water streams come out from different places inside Robber cave .According to the stories Robers after stealing use to hide in this cave and when police came to search them, they released the water stored inside cave dam and the police flashed away with water.
3.Tapkeshwar Shiv temple is an ancient place of worship.It is 5.5km from the city.The temple is situated on the bank of river Rivulet in Garhi Cantt area.It is cave in which water droplets originating from a rock fall on the shivling. On occasion of Shivratri, a big fair is held here in which attracts lots of crowds here.
4. FRI (Forest Research Institute) in 1906.
FRI Dehradun is one of the oldest institutions of its kind and acclaimed the world over.It is founded in the year 1906 dedicated to The Institute’s history is virtually synonymous with the evolution and development of scientific forestry, not only in India but over the entire sub-continent. FRI lush green estate spread over 450 hectares, with the outer Himalaya forming its backdrop, the institute’s main building is an impressive edifice, marrying Greco-Roman and Colonial styles of architecture, with a plinth area of 2.5 hectares.It is 7 km from Clock Tower, on the Dehradun-Chakrata road and is of the biggest forest-based training institute in India. Most of the forest officers are a product of this Institute. The F.R.I. with its majestic building also houses a Botanical Museum for the attraction of tourists.FRI is so beautiful and has many varieties of plants and garden that many Bollywood movies have shot here.It is ideal place for group picnic.
5. Malsi zoo Deer Park is 10km from Dehradun city,enroute to Mussoorie. It is situated in Saal forest modified into a small zoo.Which shows a natural look.There you can find Deer, Neel gain, Lovebirds, and other animals. There is small children park n which children enjoy very much , children find this place very entertaining.The place is very natural and it is ideal place for picnic especially for children.
6. Buddha monastery temple
Buddha monestary( commonly called Buddha temple) is in clementown near ISBT,3 Km from isbt , famous among doonites, it is an artistic and beautifully maintained surroundings with Buddhist art and craft.
7.Asan Barrage Water Sports
Asan barrage is made on river Yamuna it was created in 1967 and is popularly known as Dhalipur lake. Situated at 43km from Dehradun on Chandigarh Highway.There are sports like water skiing, boating, rowing,kayaking.

8.Santla Devi Temple is 15km from city. A 2km trek take you to this temple.the temple satnds as a symbol of faith and fervor amoung devotees and its cultual and religious significane.Santala devi along with his brother on realizing that they would not be able to face the mighty Mughal Army, Abandoned their weapons and started offerings prayers, a light flickered within moments they both were transformed into stone images. It is within the fort that shrine was built.
9.Tapovan situated near raipur sahastradhara crossing.It is around 5km from the city. Tapovan is famous for its beautiful surroundings and auspicious nature relating to Hindu mythology. Legends have it that Guru Dronacaharaya had done penance in the area.
It is 7km from Dehradun on ISBT route. According to Mythology, this spot was inhabited by Maharishi Gautam .his wife and daughter Anjani who was widely worshipped by the people.It is believed that daughter of Ganga has manifested herself on this spot which is popularly known as the Gautam Kund.Every year lot devotees in large number, take the dip in this holy kund 2km away from the main road.Located amidst the Shivalik hills.
